Presentation 2:   Excel vs. Access - the epic battle continues
Title:  Excel vs. Access - the epic battle continues
Presenter:  Lisa Friedrichsen

Description:  Most people are using Excel to manage lists of information. Whether it's product pricing, human resources or transaction data, Excel users spend a great deal of time managing, tracking, and analyzing data.  But is Excel always the best tool for this job?  When should you use Access?  Choosing the best tool for the information management challenge is a very common struggle.

Come to this session to learn five key questions that help determine whether Excel or Access is the right tool for the job.   We will use this methodology to analyze a typical business management problem that starts as a large list of data in Excel.  We will import the data into Access, and then split the data into related tables to experience the power and benefits of a relational database

Lisa Friedrichsen is a Professor at Johnson County Community College in Computer Sciences & Information Technology.  She is also an author of multiple Excel and Access textbooks.

I'm pleased to announce that Craig Walls' talk Giving Spring Some REST will be given in person due to generous sponsorship provided by NoFluff Just Stuff!
If you have interest in attending free talks given by world class speakers (like Craig) please be sure to attend this talk and to bring as many friends as possible! The larger audience we can consistently get, the easier it is to convince world class speakers to fly out here and for us to find sponsorship to get the speakers to come out!
Abstract
In modern applications, there are a diverse array of clients consuming content from the web. Each of these clients has unique capabilities and limitations, therefore demanding presentation of the application to be tailored to each device. As a result, presentation logic is often pushed into the client itself, leaving the application to serve a common data-oriented lightweight API to be consumed by each client.
In this presentation, we'll see how Spring is well-suited for developing that lightweight API, employing the RESTful features of Spring MVC. We'll also look at how to secure those APIs using Spring Security for OAuth and how to create self-describing REST APIs using Spring HATEOAS.
Bio

  • Hello fellow data enthusiasts!
I am excited to schedule our next meetup and the topics are HOT!
As usual, we will have some networking time starting around 5:45 with pizza and beverages. One of the hot trending topics around which a lot of tech disruption is happening is the matter of using SQL over the data managed by the Hadoop stack. Many customers are asking why such a powerful language as SQL is restricted to relational. A senior engineer from IBM presents IBM's solution architecture to address this.
Also trending red hot is the NoSQL movement - an application friendly, web app development friendly, flexible data store. But is NoSQL for everything and everybody? If not, how do you objectively choose?

    1) BigSQL v3.0 - SQL on Hadoop without compromise!
Speaker: Uday Kale, Senior Engineer, IBM
    2) SQL, "No! SQL?" , "No SQL" - Living with Polyglot Persistence
    Speaker: Penton
     See ya all there!
