Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at 6:00:00 PM Stowers Institute 1000 E 50th St, Kansas City,

Please join us for an evening of looking at the exciting past month of PHP news and learning about interesting concepts and projects in PHP and software development.

Light refreshments will be provided. Join us to meet new people, discuss PHP, and learn something new.

Our Evening Meeting Format

We love Web Development and all things PHP. Our meetings are often a little free-formed, but we shoot for this schedule:

6:00pm - Mingling / Meet and Greet

6:15pm - Lightning Talk: Last Month in PHP

6:30pm - Jesse Maxwell: Using CSS Grid and IntersectionObserver to write less code
Overview: Browsers are quickly evolving and some of the new tools they have given us can be used to build the same things we did previously, just with less code and for a better result. Less code also means faster time to production and fewer bugs. I will cover CSS Grid and Javascript's IntersectionObserver as two somewhat new, but well supported, tools that can be leveraged today for great outcomes.

Your topic here? Contact us to speak (http://www.meetup.com/kcphpug/suggestion/)!

All Developers Welcome!

We understand Web Developers often come from all backgrounds, and many work in more languages than PHP. Whether you're curious and just starting out, dabble in PHP on the weekends, write custom PHP on a daily basis, work in a framework like Symfony, Zend Framework, Silex, Slim, Laravel, CakePHP or customize CMS products like WordPress, Drupal or Joomla; our goal is that you will find something new, useful and thought provoking.

Interested in giving a presentation to the group, or demoing something you're working on? Contact one of the organizers through Meetup or talk after a monthly meeting to sign up!

Park in the garage and enter the main building to the west of the garage. Follow the signs and turn right at the security desk. Click here for event

Harness the Power of the WIND! Join us for this all day class and build your very own DIY wind turbine. Designed to be constructed from simple parts, your simple wind turbine will generate small amounts of power, enough to charge a battery, and demonstrate the basic principles and components of wind power. During this all day class we'll talk about the basic principles and history of wind power, learn about the parts of a wind turbine, and work together in the Hammerspace workshop to each build our own turbines from parts. The finished turbines will have a blade diameter of ~24 inches and generate DC power output between 3 and 12 volts.

This is an all day class. We will meet from 10am to 12:30pm, break for lunch, then reconvene from 1:30pm to 2:00pm. If you are not a Hammerspace member, please arrive early so we can get you sorted out with a safety waiver. We will be using power tools like belt sanders, drills, bandsaws, etc.

Suggested age range: 16-116 years old
